The Evolution of the Design of Healbe GoBe™

When we first set out to design a wearable device that would give people a new way to manage their whole-body health, we knew that GoBe would break the mold of ordinary fitness trackers. After all, GoBe isn’t just a toy or a gadget—it’s a real tool for living a happier, healthier life. We wanted a product design that would fit beautifully into millions of people’s daily lives.

We’ve come a long way over the years we’ve spent developing GoBe, and we’d like to give you an inside peak at some of the steps we went through on our product design journey.

Prototype 1: August 2012

Healbe GoBe Prototype 1 from August 2012

The first prototype of the GoBe body manager had a standard digital screen that displayed all the user’s information. The downside? The power requirements of the screen gave the body manager a battery life of only one day. So we scrapped the digital screen and worked to decrease the overall size of the wristband.

Prototype 2: August 2013

Our second prototype was a big improvement—much smaller, with no battery-draining display—but we still weren’t satisfied. For GoBe to work at its best, it needs to be in continuous contact with your wrist. So, we modified the shape of the strap to improve the connection between the sensors and the skin, to allow GoBe to get more precise readings from your body.

Today’s GoBe: 2014

We brought on the trendsetting industrial designer Joseph Forakis to create the final design of the GoBe body manager. Joseph led design teams to create revolutionary products such as Motorola V.70 and Swatch Irony Scuba 200.

Joseph and his New York-based Design Studio threw their talents into the challenge and created the GoBe body manager we know today. Says Joseph: "GoBe is a premium quality product, crafted with jewel-like attention to detail.”

The body manager’s face is made of high quality, lightweight alloy, and it's not only shock resistant, but also waterproof, which means you can wear it while swimming. The ergonomic GoBe band is made of hypoallergenic silicone. In the near future we will be introducing new band styles in a variety of personalized colors.

The innovative micro-perforation display shows all the information about your body in an entirely new way, using built-in individual micro-LEDs, which are precisely aligned with corresponding holes machined into the smooth metal surface. This display is “invisible” until the user needs it.

Above is a prototype version of Joseph Forakis’ design. The final manufactured body manager will include further refinements, such as an improved display with more precise match-up of lights and machined perforations.
